Madchester is a phenomenon associated with the independent music scene of Manchester, England, during the late 1980s and early 1990s. This style is known for incorporating, among others, elements such as Funk, Neo-Psychedelia, Indie Pop, Acid House and Jangle Pop to the Alternative Dance sound pioneered by the Mancunian band New Order, co-founders (with Tony Wilson) of The Haçienda nightclub, which became an important hub for the development and rise to prominence of Madchester. Some representatives of the genre include The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets and The Charlatans.
