La madera es una de las materias primas del arte.
Lo es para el escultor Rubén Fuentes Fuertes, que explora sus potenciales expresivos, sus cualidades y texturas para crear una obra de arte que es una pieza única.
Lo es también para la música, arte ligado profundamente a esa materia prima.
La madera es el material utilizado para la construcción de la mayoría de instrumentos musicales, como el clarinete, el violín, la viola, el violonchelo, el contrabajo, la guitarra, el piano, los xilófonos, los tambores e infinidad de instrumentos ligados a ritos tribales y tradicionales. Ello hace que la madera esté presente, tímbricamente, en infinidad de temas, como muchos blues antiguos o palos flamencos que utilizan simplemente una guitarra, temas a piano solo, cuartetos de cuerda clásica o música tribal como Vapeur, del grupo Haitian Rara & Dominican Gaga o Gendamou Na Wili We Gnannin, de The King of Benin.
Hay otros temas que suenan "a madera” por su aspereza y desgarro, recordándonos a los troncos de los árboles, como “Come back baby” de John Lee Hooker, “Grace” de Jeff Buckley, “Sweet Jane” de Cowboy Junkies, “La leyenda del tiempo” de Camarón o la versión de “Billie Jean” de Asstrio y Laia Cagigal.

Wood is one of the raw materials of art. That is indeed the case for sculptor Rubén Fuentes Fuertes, who explores its expressive potential, its qualities and textures, to create a work of art that is a unique piece. This means that wood is present in the timbre of countless musical pieces, from early blues to flamenco genres that simply feature a guitar, from solo piano compositions to classical string quartets and tribal music such as Vapeur, by Haitian Rara & Dominican Gaga, and Gendamou Na Wili We Gnannin, by The King of Benin.
